Flash units and artificial light

Photographic flash developed from single-use flash powder and bulbs into reusable electronic units with increasingly sophisticated control.

The collection includes Norma Fil-11M, Fil-41M and Fil-46 units, the German Unomat 20B, the Soviet Luch M1, and Elektronika V5-21 and V5-24 flashes.

These objects document changing approaches to portable lighting, power supplies and camera synchronization. Multiple electronic flashes also made more deliberate studio-style lighting arrangements possible.
